The Certificate is particularly suited to the individual who wants introductory and intermediate level accounting courses and no other business course requirements. Students in the Accounting Certificate have the options of pursuing entry-level positions or continuing their education with diploma and degree studies leading to a professional accounting designation. Please refer to the BC Transfer Guide at regarding the transferability of courses to and from specific institutions in British Columbia. ![]() Many of the courses included in this program are articulated with other universities and colleges for ease of course transferability to and from KPU. For example, the most widely-recognized certification in the bookkeeping industry is the Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) certification offered by National. Introductory financial accounting is a prerequisite for other required accounting courses making it necessary to study for at least three semesters to earn all required credits for an Accounting Certificate. The Accounting Certificate is carefully aligned with the requirements of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (BBA), Accounting Diploma and the CPA accounting designations. The Certificate program includes an intense concentration of introductory and intermediate courses in financial and management accounting, one course in math, one course in finance, and two courses in tax. They include courses in posting transactions to accounts, record-keeping systems, accounting software operation, and general accounting principles and practices. The Accounting Certificate program prepares graduates for entry-level bookkeeping and accounting positions in the work force, or to pursue an Accounting Diploma.
